Classroom information
September + October 2018 = Students are working on the introduction chapter to Spanish I. Topics covered include: conversation, alphabet, Spanish-speaking countries and locations, numbers zero thru ten, calendar dates, weather, and classroom commands. These topics are explored on pages 2 - 27 in the Avancemos 1! Text Book. A chapter test is scheduled for October 12 &13.
End of October and & November 2018 = Students will explore Unit 1 Chapter 1, ¿Qué te gusta hacer? Chapter objectives are 1) talk about activities 2) tell where you are from 3) say what you like and don't like to do using 1) subject pronouns and the verb SER 2) "de" to describe where you are from 3) the verb "gustar" with an infinitive. A chapter test is scheduled to happen the week of Thanksgiving Break.
January & February 2019 = Students are working on a lengthy unit in their textbooks. Unit 2 Section 1 discovers school related topics with a focus on Mexico and Mexican culture and customs. Some topics that students will explore are classes, schedules, telling time, conjugating -AR verbs in the present tense, and many more! Students can expect a chapter test the week of President's Day.
March 2019 - Students are working on Unit 2 Section 2 - My School. They are looking at other areas of the school and activities that they do there. For example, we are exploring eating lunch in the cafeteria after or during 4th hour or taking a lot of notes in Spanish class during 3rd hour! They will need to know their 2nd semester schedule inside and out for success in this chapter! The test will be before Spring Break, and there will be a video assessment due after break!
April 2019 - Students are currently working on favorite foods and meal time food likes and dislikes. They are working hard conjugating verbs that end in -ER and -IR in the present tense to expand on their vocabulary and grammatical knowledge! There will be a chapter test in the beginning of May. This will be the last test of the school year! How odd is that?!
May 2019 - The last unit of our study for Spanish I B will focus on families. We will explore the traditional family unit and compare that to those in Hispanic cultures. We will work on a project using our own family trees focusing on birthdays and the calendar. We also will review descriptions and the verb SER. This is a nice chapter to wrap up their Spanish I experience. This material will not have a chapter test, but it will be covered on the Final Exam!
